What is Hatha Yoga?

Health is Wealth,

Peace of Mind is Happiness,

Yoga shows the Way.

(Swami Śivananda)

Hatha Yoga is an integral and natural program to ward off the decaying/catabolic process (cell decay) in order to keep the physical and mental facilities strong.

The ancient tradition of Hatha Yoga assists in strengthening resistance to stress, promoting physical, emotional, and/or spiritual health and creating new and inspiring energy.

Imagine your body as a vehicle for your soul. There are specific requirements so that this vehicle functions smoothly in order to supply the optimum mileage. A car requires 5 main things: a lubricating system, a battery, a cooling system, fuel, and a responsible driver. Similar to a car, Hatha Yoga also involves 5 principles:

  • proper exercises and movements: they are the lubricating system to the joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and all parts of the body and they act by increasing circulation and flexibility.
  • proper breathing techniques: it is the way the body connects to its battery, the solar plexus where energy is stored. The right and controlled breathing allows this energy to be released for physical and mental rejuvenation.
  • proper relaxation: it cools down the system, especially when the body and mind are overworked. It is necessary to recharge.
  • proper diet: it is the correct fuel and consists not only of food but also air, water, and sunlight.
  • positive thinking, focus, and meditation: this is you as a responsible driver behind the steering wheel. It is conscious control through steadiness and concentration of mind.

How does it work?

  • Health is a state wherein all organs function perfectly under the intelligent control of the mind, the breathing being the bridge between the two.
  • We will focus on the health of your spine, specifically its strength and flexibility because it houses the all-important nervous system, the telegraphic system of the body.
  • Circulation is increased and the nerves are insured their supply of nutrients and oxygen.
  • The practice works on the internal machinery of the body, glands and organs, muscles, and all subtle parts. Control of the breathing and various breathing techniques are crucial during the practice.
  • Physical and mental relaxation is practiced at the end of the session. Rest is Nature’s way of recharging. It is stored and conserved through Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep) or guided meditation.
  • The 5 principles of Hatha Yoga help to balance the emotions, control the mental chatter and improve the general outlook on life.
  • As an Acharya, I can additionally (if desired) guide you on your spiritual path and introduce you to the principles of Yoga philosophy (Raja Yoga).

All levels are welcome from absolute beginner to advanced Yogi(ni).
